From the friends who started the trip with us to those that we made along the way, these connections created and provided the richness of experience in living day-to-day on a boat. Frequently, we'd be working on the boat or walking somewhere and someone would call out a greeting. Usually to Bodhi, but occasionally to us as well. Kindness was the rule rather than the exception in The Bahamas. The chance to see those friends we made provide some solace for our return trip as we seek to reach escape velocity from the gravitational pull and safety of the United States and strike out beyond.

 

t's hard to explain the feeling of running into 2 boats and the people on them I'd met months before, 1400 miles from the place we met, at the southern end of a remote set of islands in the Atlantic. But that's exactly the kind of thing that happens. Even harder to explain that feeling, when both arrive on the same day. And when we all continue on independently to the Southern Terminus of Satori's campaign where we all meet again, and are able to eat a pair of dolphin I'd caught and felt I'd mistakenly killed without being able to eat.

People in the community step up at every opportunity to help each other. Needing a week of Bodhi sitting, within a half hour of putting the request out on the VHF in George Town, we had a kind and loving environment for him secured. And how interesting that while cruising I met 3 people from Steamboat where I used to live. I'm still in touch with 2 friends back in Colorado. One couple was friends with one of them and the guy I met in Eleuthera is friends with the other's son.
